Silverchair fue una banda de rock australiana de Merewether (Newcastle), formada en 1992 con el nombre de Innocent Criminals, con Ben Gillies de baterista, Chris Joannou de bajista y Daniel Johns de vocalista y guitarrista. El grupo obtuvo su gran salto a mediados de 1994 cuando ganaron una competencia nacional de demos realizada por el programa de televisión Nomad de SBS TV y la estación de radio Triple J de ABC. La banda fue contratada por la compañía discográfica Murmur, y tuvo éxito en los escenarios de rock australianos e internacionales.
